Review of The A.I Who Loved Me by Alyssa Cole
Hi guys, today we'll be discussing a book that caught me by surprise in a totally delicious way. This is my review on The A.I Who Loved Me by Alyssa Cole, narrated by Regina Hall, Mindy Kaling, Feodor Chin, Therese Plummer, Dina Pearlman, Neil Hellegers, Adenrele Ojo, and Kyla Garcia. As usual, we start with a brief disclaimer. The views presented in this post are 100% my own and are not intended to sway you in any way against or towards any particular direction. This is simply my honest thoughts of the book. Now let’s dive into the actual review.
Trinity Jordan leads a quiet, normal life: working from home for the Hive, a multi-functional government research center, and recovering from the incident that sent her into a tailspin. But the life she's trying to rebuild is plagued by mishaps when Li Wei, her neighbor's super sexy and super strange nephew, moves in and turns things upside down.
Li Wei's behavior is downright odd-and the attraction building between them is even more so. When an emergency pulls his aunt away from the apartment complex, Trinity decides to keep an eye on him...and slowly discovers that nothing is what it seems. For one thing, Li Wei isn't just the hot guy next door-he's the hot A.I. next door. In fact, he's so advanced that he blurs the line between man and machine. It's up to Trinity to help him achieve his objective of learning to be human, but danger is mounting as they figure out whether he's capable of the most illogical human behavior of all...falling in love.

I'll be the first to admit that when I first read the title, I wasn't sure if this book was for me, but after reading the blurb, I was hooked. This novella is my very first Alyssa Cole novel, and I loved it! The novella focuses on Trinity Jordan, our protagonist, who suffers from frequent memory loss due to an incident, and Li Wei, her sexy new neighbor who we later discover, is A.I and was also involved in an incident. This similarity helps them to create a bond. Over the course of the novella, we get to travel along with Trinity and Lei Wei as they both struggle to regain access to their lost memories and fall in love with each other.
The premise behind this story was genius, and Alyssa Cole used superb writing to pull us along on every step of the characters' journey. The audiobook was only a little over 5 hours, but by the end, you felt satisfied. The characters were extremely well developed. The world she created was so imperfectly perfect (don't judge me before you read it, it truly was the perfect anomaly) that you felt you were living in that world today.
The narrators did a good job, but I felt it took them a while to really get into the grove of becoming the characters, but by about a quarter of the way in though they had it. I would have loved if the narrators who were allotted to specific roles, stuck to their parts throughout the novella. Instead, the POV for the chapter read the whole thing. It's a small tweak, but I feel like it would have lifted the novella an even higher stance emotionally.
Overall though, this was a brilliant audiobook that I'm sure I will be listening to again in the future, as it was just that good.
